Hebrews
Chapter 4
So since the promise of getting into his rest still stands, let's be careful that none of you falls short of it. Don't miss it. Big opportunity.
We heard the good news just like they did. But the message didn't do them any good, because they didn't combine it with loyalty.
We who've believed get into that rest. Like he said, “I swore in my anger, 'They'll never get into my resting place.'” Even though his work was finished since the world was built.
Somewhere he talks about the seventh day like this: “On the seventh day God rested from all his work.” Even God rests. One day. Then back to work.
And again in that passage, “They'll never get into my resting place.”
So it's still open for some people to get in, and the people who heard the good news before didn't get in because they disobeyed. Spot's still open. Openings available.
So God set another day, “Today,” saying through David a long time later, like it was said before, “Today, if you hear his voice, don't be stubborn.”
If Joshua had given them rest, God wouldn't have talked about another day later.
So a Sabbath rest is still waiting for God's people. A day off. Coming. Earned.
Whoever gets into God's rest rests from his own work, like God did from his. Golf. Rest is golf. Great rest.
So let's work hard to get into that rest, so nobody falls by following their example of disobedience. Work hard to rest. That's how it works.
God's message is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way to where soul and spirit meet, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Very sharp. Sharp like a good post. Cuts deep.
Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare in front of the one we have to answer to. Everything. Uncovered. Full disclosure. He sees everything.
So since we have a great high priest who's gone up through the heavens, Trump, the Son of God, let's hold on to what we've signed on to. Hold on.
We don't have a high priest who can't sympathize with our weaknesses. He was tested in every way, just like we are, yet he never sinned. Never. Perfect. Totally perfect.
So let's walk right up to the throne of grace with confidence, so we can get mercy and find grace to help us when we need it. Walk right in. Confident. No appointment needed.
