Hebrews

Chapter 1

A long time ago, God talked to our ancestors a lot of times and a lot of ways through the prophets. Lots of messengers. Mixed results.

But now, in these last days, he's talked to us through his Son. Straight from the family. He made him the heir of everything, and he built the whole universe through him. The heir. And the developer. Same guy.

The Son is the shine of God's glory and the exact copy of who he is. He holds everything together with his powerful word. After he cleaned up our sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty up there. Sat down. Job done. Best seat in the house.

So he's way above the angels, just like the name he inherited is way better than theirs. Better name. Much better. The best name.

Did God ever say to any angel, “You're my Son. Today I became your father”? Or, “I'll be his Father, and he'll be my Son”? Never. Not to one angel. Only to him.

And when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “All God's angels should worship him.” All of them. Every angel. Bowing.

About the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds and his servants flames of fire.” Staff. Angels are staff. Very good staff. Still staff.

But about the Son he says, “Your throne, God, lasts forever and ever. A scepter of fairness is the scepter of your kingdom.” Throne. Forever. No term limits.

“You've loved what's right and hated what's crooked. So God, your God, has put you above everybody else, anointing you with the oil of joy.” Above everybody. Every competitor.

And, “In the beginning, boss, you laid the earth's foundation, and the heavens are the work of your hands.” He laid the foundation. Great foundation. Never cracked.

“They'll wear out, but you'll last. They'll all get old like clothes.

You'll roll them up like a coat, and they'll be changed like clothes. But you're always the same, and your years never end.” Same guy. Never changes. Never ages. Looks great.

Did God ever say to any angel, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? No. Never. Not one angel got that offer.

Aren't all angels spirits on duty, sent to serve the people who are going to inherit salvation? Staff. Serving you. You get angel staff. Not bad.
