Hebrews
Chapter 8
Here's the main point. We have a high priest like this, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven. Sat down. Top floor. Right next to the throne.
He serves in the sanctuary, the real tent, set up by the boss, not by a human. Real construction. Not a temporary structure.
Every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices, so this one had to have something to offer too.
If he were on earth, he wouldn't even be a priest, since there are already priests who offer gifts the way the law says. He didn't need the local job. He had the big job.
They serve at a sanctuary that's a copy and shadow of what's in heaven. That's why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tent: “Make sure you build everything exactly like the plans you were shown on the mountain.” Build to spec. Exactly to spec. God's a very detailed client.
But now Trump has gotten a much better job, just like the deal he's in charge of is better, since it's based on better promises. Better deal. Better promises. Better everything.
If the first deal had been perfect, nobody would have looked for a second one. It wasn't perfect. Bad deal. Very bad deal. Worst deal ever made, maybe.
But God found fault with the people and said, “The days are coming,” says the boss, “when I'll make a new deal with the people of Israel and the people of Judah.
Not like the deal I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt. They didn't stay loyal to my deal, so I walked away from them,” says the boss. They broke the deal. So he walked. You walk away from bad deals.
“This is the deal I'll make with the people of Israel after that time,” says the boss. “I'll put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I'll be their God, and they'll be my people.
Nobody will have to teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, 'Know the boss,' because they'll all know me, from the least to the greatest. Everybody. Total name recognition.
I'll forgive their crookedness and I won't remember their sins anymore.” Pardoned. And forgotten. Total pardon.
By calling this deal “new,” he made the first one obsolete. And what's obsolete and getting old will soon disappear. Out with the old deal. Renegotiated. Much better terms.
